Hi, Ingrid!

In regard to the use of the salves as indicated on p. 130 of your book, would you mind helping me out with what calendula CO2 is please?

Also if you apply the salve after four days, do you apply a stronger strength of the salve or do you just continue with the same strength salve?

As indicated elsewhere in your book, I understand that you may not always use zinc chloride. We are planning to have a few dry runs of the manufacturing of the salve before we try it out.

Love, light, and laughter,

Marg

As I understand it, carbon dioxide is applied under pressure to the herbs (using very expensive equipment that is made in Germany.)

Because the method uses pressure rather than heat, there is no undesirable change to the herbs. Once the pressure is released, the CO2 goes into the atmosphere and is recycled by Nature.

The product that results from this is extremely concentrated and quite expensive.

I received an e-mail from England a few days ago discussing a new batch of CO2 processed calendula and am waiting to hear about the quantity available and the price.

In the meantime, I would suggest that people making their own salves simply use a highly concentrated calendula oil.

For those who are curious, the CO2 processed calendula has a consistency almost like molasses. It is extremely dark in color, more a burgundy than a yellow or orange. It disperses in oil and then appears more as one would expect calendula to appear.

Its function within the formula is less important than some of the other ingredients. It is primarily used as an anti-spasmodic and only secondarily as an anti-infective. In conjunction with goldenseal and myrrh, it is less critical than the other ingredients so my advice would be to go ahead and make the product you want to use without worrying about whether you have the CO2 processed calendula or a milder ingredient.
